Clinical Services

What is clinical nutritional therapy?

Clinical Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutritional (functional) medicine in the promotion of optimum health, peak performance, disease treatment and prevention and patient care.

One Man's meat is another Man's poison

Despite what the government would have us believe, there is no diet which suits all of us or which suits anyone of us all of the time. Our nutritional requirements are determined by our genes, internal and external environments, age, sex, race and circumstances, including our stress levels. The skill of the nutritional therapist is to match the diet to the individual's requirements, and provide ongoing support to ensure the changes are made to return the individual to or help them achieve optimal health.

Modern evidence within an ancient philosophy

The practice of clinical nutritional therapies utilizes the immense amount of modern evidence available from around the world to provide treatment strategies for a broad range of health conditions as well as in support of performance. It also recognizes bioindividuality and incorporates the individual's attitudes, preferences, social, spiritual and psychological status in order to find the most effective treatments. No food is essentially healthy or unhealthy. Foods either meet your requirements or don't. My task is to ensure you have the nutrition you require, in the amounts you require and in a form you are able and willing to take.

Integrative

Whilst nutritional medicine can be practiced independently, I think it works best as part of an integrative approach, which takes the best from all systems of medicine in order to provide complete health solutions. I'm fortunate to work alongside a team of doctors, nurses, physiologists, physiotherapists, dentists, psychologists, fitness professionals and complimentary practitioners to provide a comprehensive system of care. I have access to a well developed network of health specialists in order to provide support to my clients and take referrals from many leading medical specialists, among others.

Specialisations

I treat a wide range of conditions, as shown, and have had enormous success in treating many health problems. The conditions with which I have had outstanding success include the 'stress related spectrum of conditions' including IBS and digestive disorders, fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety disorders and depression and weight problems, including those which are of both a metabolic and psychological nature. I'm also increasingly being asked to provide nutritional programmes to enhance performance at work.

Testing

My approach is 'orthomolecular' and I offer my clients a broad range of tests. I'm a trained phlebotomist and provide a full range of blood tests, including tests of cellular nutrient status, as well as urinary, saliva and stool tests.

Treatments

Once a functional diagnosis is made you will be offered a treatment which is likely to include a dietary plan, lifestyle guidance, where appropriate a dietary supplement schedule and recipes. I provide a full range of therapeutic supplements from the UK's leading manufacturers. You will also receive ongoing support until you reach your health or performance goals.
